
Kolkata, 16 September (H.S.): Police have arrested two youths and seized around nine kilograms of ganja from their possession in Dompukur area under Egra Police Station in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sagnik Chand, 19, and Jeetu De, 20. Both are residents of the Belda Police Station area in neighbouring Paschim Medinipur district.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, personnel from Egra Police Station conducted a search operation near a Bharat Petroleum fuel station in the Dompukur area along the Egra–Contai State Highway on Tuesday night.
During the operation, the police intercepted the two youths while they were travelling on a motorcycle under suspicious circumstances. A subsequent search led to the recovery of around nine kilograms of ganja from their possession.
The motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the narcotic substance was also seized. Police further recovered two smartphones from the arrested youths.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the source of the ganja, its intended destination and the possible involvement of others in the alleged trafficking network.
