Hyderabad, 16 September (H.S.): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday extended greetings and best wishes to the people of Telangana on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day, observed on September 17.

In his message, the Governor said September 17, 1948, occupies an important place in the history of the erstwhile Hyderabad State and in the process of the country's national integration.

He recalled that following India's Independence on August 15, 1947, the erstwhile Hyderabad State attained liberation on September 17, 1948. The State then comprised the regions corresponding to present-day Telangana, Marathwada and Hyderabad-Karnataka.

Shukla said Hyderabad Liberation Day provides an occasion to remember with gratitude the sacrifices and contributions of those who participated in the Liberation Movement and to pay homage to all those who made sacrifices in the cause of freedom and national integration.

He emphasised the need to preserve the history of the Liberation Movement and pass it on to future generations. The younger generation, he said, should be made aware of the struggles, hardships and sacrifices endured by the people during that period, as well as the significance of the subsequent integration of the Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.

“On this solemn occasion, we pay our respectful homage to all the Liberation Fighters and remember their sacrifices with gratitude. Their courage and dedication remain an important part of our shared history and continue to inspire us to uphold the values of freedom, unity, democracy and national integration,” the Governor said.

The Governor called upon people to observe Hyderabad Liberation Day with a sense of unity and collective remembrance and reaffirm their commitment to national unity, integrity and democratic values.

He also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Telangana and prayed for their continued peace, progress and prosperity.
