Varanasi, 16 Sept (HS): Uttar Pradesh Finance and

Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Minister in-charge of Varanasi district,

Suresh Kumar Khanna, visited various areas of the city on Wednesday to review

the sanitation system. The Minister in-charge visited the Mirapur Bashi slum,

which falls under Ward No. 16, Sarasoli, and conducted a surprise inspection of

the sanitation system and civic amenities. During the inspection, he expressed

displeasure at the filth, poor sewerage, drainage problems, and damaged streets

in the area.

The Minister in-charge found the sewer in front of the

Health Medical Agency in the Mirapur Bashi slum to be faulty. Dirty sewer water

was flowing into a nearby vacant plot, and garbage was also accumulated there.

Some streets in the area were also found damaged. He directed Municipal

Corporation officials to immediately repair the faulty sewer and drainage

systems, remove garbage from the plot, and repair the damaged streets.

While traveling to the Meerapur Bashi slum, the Minister in

charge also inspected the cleanliness along the route. A large amount of

garbage was found lying in front of a snack shop on the Taktakpur main road.

Similarly, garbage was found piled up in front of Amar Pushp Kunj in Anaula, on

the Anaula-Meerapur Bashi main road, and in front of Block B of Shyampur Colony

on Meerapur Bashi Road.

Upon finding garbage and filth at various locations during

the inspection, the Minister reprimanded the concerned officials. He ordered

the immediate removal of garbage from all identified locations and proper

sanitation, while also ordering the deducting two days' salary of the employee

responsible for the negligence.

The Minister in charge said that municipal officials should

regularly visit the areas and ensure effective monitoring of cleaning

operations. Garbage should not accumulate in slums, main roads, streets, and

vacant plots. Problems related to sanitation, sewerage, and drainage should be

addressed on a priority basis. The Minister stated clearly that it is the

Municipal Corporation's responsibility to maintain a clean and orderly city.

Laxity or negligence in public health-related work will not be tolerated at any

level.
