Guwahati, 16 September (HS): Trinamool Congress leader and MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed has questioned the Congress party’s decision to field Sibamoni Bora in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. Bora, a former Batadrava MLA, is contesting the bypoll scheduled for October 6.
Ahmed alleged that Bora did not raise issues concerning her constituency prominently during her tenure as an MLA. He also questioned her ability to communicate in English and Hindi and asked what she would be able to say as a Member of Parliament.
Ahmed further questioned why Congress did not field a minority candidate from Nagaon, which he claimed has around 60% minority population. He also alleged that minority voters in Dhubri had rejected AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and accused Ajmal of showing a “deceptive nature” by contesting the by-election himself.
Ahmed said the Trinamool Congress would contest the Nagaon bypoll against the BJP.-----------
