New Delhi, 16 September (H.S.): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action in two separate cases linked to West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. The ED’s Kolkata Zonal Office conducted search and seizure operations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at 17 residential and office premises in Kolkata and Indore linked to directors and promoters of companies associated with the Amrit Group. In a separate case involving alleged land grabbing, forgery of documents and manipulation of land records, the agency arrested Amit Ganguly on Tuesday night.

According to the ED, companies belonging to the Amrit Group and their directors collected substantial amounts of money from members of the public through various deposit schemes. Investors were allegedly assured of attractive returns, but the promised returns were reportedly not repaid. In connection with the case, search and seizure operations are being carried out at premises linked to K.C. Dujari, Kali Kishore Bagchi and other directors and promoters associated with the group. The operations cover a total of 17 residential and office premises in Kolkata and Indore.

In another case, the ED arrested Amit Ganguly on allegations involving land grabbing, forgery of documents and land records, and irregularities related to powers of attorney. According to the agency’s investigation, Ganguly allegedly acquired control over properties belonging to various individuals and entities through unlawful means.

According to the ED, the alleged methods included using fraudulent board resolutions, preparing sale agreements bearing forged signatures, creating fabricated documents and deeds, manipulating land records, and filing civil suits based on false or fabricated claims. The investigating agency alleged that, in addition to denying the legitimate rights of the concerned landowners, methods involving threats and the use of physical force were also employed against individuals who came forward to assert their rights.

The investigation also uncovered 23 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against Amit Ganguly by the West Bengal Police. According to the ED, the cases relate to the alleged fraudulent and unlawful acquisition of properties and transactions involving those properties. The agency said the cases indicate a consistent pattern of alleged illegal activities aimed at obtaining control over properties.
