New Delhi, 16 September (H.S.): A joint meeting of Delhi University (DU) officials, college principals, provosts of halls and hostels, and police officials was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh to review arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2026-27.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh reviewed the overall status of the DUSU elections and discussed the arrangements required to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly and peacefully.

Chairing the meeting, Prof. Yogesh Singh said that the DUSU elections should be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. He emphasised that all students are equal in the eyes of Delhi University and its teachers and urged faculty members to refrain from any form of bias. He said that all stakeholders were making every effort to ensure that the DUSU elections were conducted peacefully and properly.

Prof. Yogesh Singh appealed to all college principals to strengthen security arrangements on their respective campuses for the next three to four days. He also asked every college to designate a teacher who would coordinate with the police throughout the election process. The Vice-Chancellor said that greater involvement of teachers in election-related arrangements would help ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.

Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Director of South Campus Prof. Rajni Abbi, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, Culture Council Chairman and PRO Anup Lathar, Chief Election Officer Prof. Raj Kishore Sharma, Chief Returning Officer Dr. Rajesh Singh, several Delhi Police officials, and principals, heads of departments, provosts and wardens from various DU colleges and hostels were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, it was informed that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be delivered to the colleges one day before the elections. The distribution of EVMs would begin at 8 a.m., with designated master trainers responsible for delivering them.

Voting for the DUSU elections will take place on September 18. For day classes, polling will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., while students attending evening classes will be able to vote from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

After polling, the EVMs will be sealed in their respective boxes in the presence of student representatives and election officials and deposited at the Delhi University Multipurpose Hall (University Indoor Stadium). The counting of votes will be conducted at the Multipurpose Hall on September 19.

To prevent any incidents of violence at sensitive locations during the elections, night patrolling will continue until September 18. On polling day, police patrols will also be deployed outside colleges, departments and institutions. In addition, arrangements will be made to deploy women police personnel at women’s colleges.
