Nagaon (Assam), 15 September (HS): Residents of Gendhali Adarsha Gaon in Assam’s Samguri have been living in fear following repeated attacks by wild elephants. A herd of elephants entered the village during the night and damaged several houses belonging to economically weaker families, besides destroying essential household belongings.

According to residents, the elephants attacked the house of Jaguram Das and several other poor families in the village. The attacks took place while the families were asleep, leaving the residents with little time to respond. The affected families reportedly managed to escape without sustaining serious injuries.

The victims alleged that wild elephants had damaged their houses several times in the past as well, causing substantial losses. They claimed that despite the repeated incidents, they have not received any compensation from the government so far.

Meanwhile, the continuing elephant menace has forced residents across the larger Samguri area to remain awake at night for their safety. Though the Forest Department has been taking steps to drive the elephants away, locals alleged that the measures have failed to provide a lasting solution. They urged the authorities to take immediate and effective steps to prevent further attacks and protect villagers and their properties.---------------
