New Delhi, September 15 (H.S.). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, among several other leaders, on Tuesday paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary and extended their warm greetings to the people on ‘National Engineers’ Day’, observed in his memory.

Prime Minister Modi, in a post on the social media platform X, wrote, “Tributes to M. Visvesvaraya, whose engineering genius and vision for nation-building continue to inspire us. On the birth anniversary of the great engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who played a crucial role in building modern India and was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, I offer my heartfelt respects to him. On the occasion of Engineers’ Day (Abhiyanta Diwas), celebrated in his memory, my warm greetings and best wishes to all engineers who are playing an important role in nation-building. These are the people who build for a better tomorrow, create new things and provide solutions.”

Om Birla said Dr. Visvesvaraya made significant contributions to the development of India’s water resources, irrigation systems and public infrastructure through his exceptional technical expertise, discipline and foresight. His life is a testament to the fact that when knowledge, innovation and dedication to duty are aligned with the national interest, even the seemingly impossible can be made possible.

He said the day was an opportunity to express respect and gratitude to the millions of engineers across the country who, through their talent and innovation, are scripting a new chapter in India’s development. Today, as India is setting new benchmarks in areas such as robust infrastructure, modern technology, digital advancement, self-reliance and innovation, the role of engineers has become even more significant.

Rajnath Singh said the competence and dedication of the country’s engineers were driving India’s technological progress, strengthening its infrastructure and contributing to the building of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). He said M. Visvesvaraya’s life was an outstanding example of excellence, discipline, innovation and public service. His extraordinary contribution to India’s nation-building journey would always be remembered.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said M. Visvesvaraya’s remarkable foresight, discipline and excellence in engineering continued to inspire generations. His life reminds us that engineering is not merely about building structures but also about building a strong, resilient and self-reliant nation.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge paid his respectful tributes to Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary and extended his warm greetings to all engineers working for the progress of the country on National Engineers’ Day.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that continuous innovation by engineers was driving India’s progress and sustained development. He said M. Visvesvaraya’s extraordinary contribution to nation-building had played a significant role.

Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh said the country’s engineers were making invaluable contributions to nation-building through their knowledge, skills and innovation.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the outstanding work being undertaken through engineering in the service of the nation and society would continue to inspire future generations in building a capable nation and an empowered society. He paid his respects to this great son of Mother India.
