Kerala, 15 September (H.S.): Senior Kannur leader P. Jayarajan is included in the CPM State Secretariat as part of an extensive organisational overhaul approved at the party's extended State Committee meeting in Kozhikode.

Jayarajan's induction is the most significant political move in the restructuring of the CPM's key policy-making body. The party also brought two former ministers into the Secretariat while dropping two prominent senior leaders.

M.B. Rajesh from Palakkad and V. Sivankutty from Thiruvananthapuram were inducted into the Secretariat. Rajya Sabha member John Brittas has been included as a permanent invitee in the secretariat.

Senior leader and former Industries minister P. Rajeev is likely to become the new Left Democratic Front convener, replacing T.P. Ramakrishnan. Senior leaders Thomas Isaac from Alappuzha and Ramakrishnan from Kozhikode were removed from the State Secretariat.

The overhaul followed a firm assessment by the party's central Politburoe that organisational corrections were necessary. The meeting examined ways to modernise party functioning, strengthen grassroots activities and address weaknesses exposed during recent political and electoral battles.

The CPM also brought nine new invitees into the State Committee, giving greater representation to younger leaders active at the grassroots.

MLA M. Vijin, youth leader Jaick C. Thomas, P.S. Sanjeev, SFI national president Adarsh M. Saji and Sivaprasad were among those appointed as invitees.

Women's representation was strengthened through the inclusion of O.S. Ambika, N. Sukanya and Subaida Ishaq as new State Committee invitees.

Through the leadership changes, the CPM aims to expand its organisational reach and prepare the cadre for upcoming political challenges. The party expects the revamped committees to improve coordination, sharpen decision-making and energise its grassroots machinery ahead of crucial electoral contests across Kerala in the coming months. It hopes the changes will also deepen its connection with workers, attract younger supporters and strengthen political mobilisation throughout the state before the next scheduled elections.
