New Delhi, 15 September (H.S.): Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that while working to transform the national capital into an education hub, the Delhi Government has also decided to build hostels for 10,000 students. The government has initiated the process of developing safe and affordable hostel facilities for 10,000 students. She said the hostels will cater to both male and female students.

In a video posted on her social media account on X on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the hostels would be available to both boys and girls. Students enrolled in any university or college in Delhi will be able to avail themselves of these facilities. She said the government had held meetings with the concerned departments capable of undertaking the construction of the hostels, identified suitable locations and begun drafting a policy for the project.

The Chief Minister said the government had carefully considered the needs of students and the essential facilities required at these hostels. The government intends to develop hostel facilities where parents from across the country can leave their children with complete peace of mind, while students can focus entirely on pursuing their dreams without having to worry about food or accommodation.

She said locations for the hostels are currently being identified and a dedicated policy is being prepared to ensure that the project is implemented within the stipulated timeframe.

It is noteworthy that following the Satya Niketan incident, the Delhi Government has taken action against a large number of illegally operated hostels.
