Guwahati, 15 September (HS): The Congress is facing a fresh internal crisis over the selection of its candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, with a section of party leaders and workers in Morigaon reportedly quitting the party in protest against the nomination of Shivamoni Bora.

Several Congress functionaries from Morigaon announced their collective resignation, led by a general secretary of the Morigaon District Congress Committee. The disgruntled leaders and workers reportedly opposed Bora’s candidature, alleging that the party had ignored the demand for fielding a minority candidate in the constituency.

The development has triggered renewed speculation over growing dissatisfaction within the Congress ahead of the Nagaon bypoll. At the grassroots level, several party leaders and workers have also expressed resentment over the decision to nominate Bora.

Amid the growing discontent, a section of Congress workers reportedly joined the BJP, further highlighting the challenges facing the opposition party as it prepares for the by-election.-----------
