New Delhi, September 15 (H.S.): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of E. Vinayagam for the by-election to the Thattanchavady seat of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

According to a statement issued by the Congress, E. Vinayagam will be the party’s candidate for the by-election to Assembly Constituency No. 9, Thattanchavady. Formally announcing his candidature, the party has directed the concerned organisational units to step up preparations for the election.

The by-election is being necessitated by the resignation of Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy from the Thattanchavady seat. Polling for the constituency is scheduled to be held on October 6, while counting of votes will take place on October 9.
