New Delhi, 15 September (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over alleged recruitment scams, accusing the party of running a “business of corruption” in its purported ‘shop of love’ and alleging that Rahul Gandhi had maintained silence on cases involving Congress leaders.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters on Tuesday, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said Rahul Gandhi spoke about the country’s youth, students and unemployment on the one hand, but questioned why he did not raise his voice when serious allegations were levelled against leaders and workers of his own party for allegedly jeopardising the future of young people.

Referring to a case involving a former personal assistant of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Swaraj said that during Enforcement Directorate action in connection with an examination scam, properties linked to both former and serving personal assistants were investigated. She claimed that the assets recovered were far in excess of their known sources of income. She said this raised serious questions about the recruitment processes under Congress governments.

The BJP MP also referred to the arrest of a former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in connection with an alleged recruitment scam. She said the case, involving a paper leak in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission examination, had raised questions about the recruitment system.

Bansuri Swaraj also referred to an alleged commission-related irregularity that had surfaced in connection with outsourced recruitment in Himachal Pradesh. She questioned why Rahul Gandhi remained silent when serious allegations relating to political patronage and corruption came to light.

She asked Rahul Gandhi why, when he speaks about the future of young people and unemployment, he does not respond to allegations of recruitment scams involving leaders of his own party and claims of alleged political patronage.
