Kolkata, 15 September (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday night shared the achievements of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) as the scheme completed one month of implementation in the state. He said more than 50,000 people had received hospital treatment under the scheme, with medical services worth over Rs 28 crore covered during the period.

In a post on social media platform X, Adhikari said the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was rolled out in West Bengal on August 16, 2026. Within a month, the scheme has reached thousands of families across the state, marking a significant step towards ensuring accessible, dignified and quality healthcare, particularly for underprivileged sections.

According to the Chief Minister, more than 50,000 patients were admitted and treated at various healthcare institutions during the first month of implementation. Essential medical services worth over Rs 28 crore were provided to beneficiaries under the scheme.

He said more than 1,102 patients requiring treatment outside the state also availed themselves of medical facilities at hospitals in other parts of the country through the Ayushman scheme. At the same time, 1,849 patients from other states received treatment at hospitals in West Bengal during the same period.

Adhikari said healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen and asserted that his government is committed to strengthening the public healthcare infrastructure, reducing the financial burden of treatment on needy families and ensuring that no one is deprived of access to healthcare.

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and administrative officials for their contribution to the successful implementation of the scheme, saying they were working tirelessly around the clock to provide healthcare services.
