
New Delhi, 14 September (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 title.
President Droupadi Murmu said on X that the Indian women’s team delivered a stellar performance throughout the tournament, winning every match and bringing glory to the country. Describing the players as a major source of inspiration for the youth, particularly young girls, she wished them continued success and many more stories of achievement in the future.
The President also congratulated the junior men’s and women’s hockey teams for their impressive performances in the Asia Cup. She said the dedication, discipline and team spirit displayed by the young players are a matter of pride for the nation.
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan said the Indian women players’ winning run throughout the tournament, outstanding teamwork and unwavering determination have brought great honour to the country. He expressed hope that the achievement would inspire countless young people to dream big, embrace sports and strive for excellence.
He also congratulated the junior women’s hockey team for retaining the Asia Cup title and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. Referring to the junior men’s hockey team’s 4-1 victory in the final, he said the skill, discipline and determination of the young players were inspiring.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s team on winning the Asia Cup, describing it as a proud moment for Indian cricket. He said the team displayed confidence, consistency and remarkable fighting spirit throughout the tournament. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the victory would inspire millions of young people across the country to take up sports and pursue excellence.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the Indian women’s team won the title without losing a single match throughout the tournament and secured the Asia Cup for the eighth time. He said that playing every match with confidence, discipline and team spirit, the women cricketers showcased their talent and determination in an outstanding manner.
Birla said the victory was not merely about winning a trophy, but represented the triumph of the strength, hard work and aspirations of the daughters of India. He said the achievement of the Indian women players would inspire young people, particularly girls, to dream big, work hard and achieve their goals.
It is noteworthy that the Indian women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs to win the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 title. The Indian side, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, secured its eighth Asia Cup title with the victory. The triumph also enabled India to avenge its defeat to Sri Lanka in the final of the previous edition of the tournament.
