Kolkata, 14 September (H.S.) : A Sub-Inspector of the West Bengal Police was found hanging inside his room at the police barracks of Habra Police Station in North 24 Parganas district on Monday, triggering concern among his colleagues.

The deceased has been identified as Biswanath Sen, who was posted as an SI at Habra Police Station. He was a resident of the Maheshtala area of South 24 Parganas.

According to police sources, Sen had performed his duty on Sunday night and there was reportedly nothing unusual in his behaviour. On Monday, his colleagues found the door of his room at the police barracks closed for a prolonged period.

Initially, the officers assumed that Sen was sleeping. However, after repeated knocking and calls went unanswered, they became suspicious. The colleagues eventually forced open the door and found Sen hanging inside the room.

He was immediately rescued and rushed to Habra Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have said that the preliminary circumstances indicate suicide, although the exact reason behind his extreme step remains unclear.

Investigators are looking into whether Sen was facing any personal, professional or other form of pressure. No specific information regarding the circumstances leading to his death has emerged so far.

Police have started an investigation and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The deceased officer's family has also been informed about the incident.
