Guwahati, 14 September (HS): The father of Ramanuj Goswami, the man accused of allegedly killing his wife in Guwahati’s Basistha area, said on Monday that he was physically and mentally unable to travel to Guwahati to receive his son’s body.

Speaking about the formalities related to receiving the body, the father said that if the government sends Ramanuj Goswami’s body to his residence, he would accept it there.

“I will receive Ramanuj’s body if the government sends it to my house,” he said, adding that he was not physically or mentally capable of travelling to Guwahati to take custody of the body.

Ramanuj Goswami was killed after police opened fire when he allegedly attempted to escape custody while being taken for a medical examination in the Narkasur Hill area on early hours today, police said.

The body was subsequently taken into police custody and sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.---------------
