Kolkata, 14 September (H.S.) : A police team came under a bomb attack while conducting a raid at an alleged gambling den in Khadera village under Salaar police station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Sunday night. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sadeq Ali sustained serious injuries in the attack and was admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Berhampore. Tension continued to prevail in the area on Monday, with a large police contingent deployed in the village.

According to police sources, the Salaar police received information about an illegal gambling den operating in Khadera village and subsequently launched an operation there on Sunday night. The alleged gamblers reportedly fled as soon as the police team reached the spot and began hurling bombs at the officers. During the attack, one of the bombs struck ASI Sadeq Ali, leaving him seriously injured.

The injured police officer was immediately taken to hospital for treatment. Senior police officials from Murshidabad district also reached Khadera village after receiving information about the attack. Police subsequently launched raids in the area to trace those allegedly involved in the incident.

Police sources said several people have been detained in connection with the incident and are being questioned. Investigators are also trying to identify all those who allegedly participated in the attack and determine whether anyone else was involved in planning the assault on the police team.

The situation remained tense in Khadera on Monday morning. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order.

Salaar police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are conducting further raids to identify and apprehend the suspects.
