New Delhi, 14 September (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to intensify its campaign against drug abuse and gangsterism in Punjab, with the aim of freeing the state’s youth from drug addiction. The party will launch its anti-drug campaign on September 18.

Tarun Chugh, BJP MP and in-charge of the party’s central headquarters, told reporters on Monday that the party has consistently raised its voice against drug abuse, extortion and the politicisation of gangsters. The BJP will now organise four yatras across Punjab under the leadership of party president Nitin Nabin. The yatras will begin from different locations across the state.

He said BJP president Nitin Nabin will flag off the first yatra from Pathankot on September 18. The yatra originating from Fatehgarh Sahib on September 19 will be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. On September 20, a yatra will begin from Fazilka under the leadership of Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal. Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the yatra from Bathinda on September 21.

The four yatras will serve as a public awareness campaign against drug abuse across Punjab. Chugh said the campaign will also sensitise people about extortion and gangsterism and encourage them to participate actively in the fight against these challenges.

The objective of the yatras is to strengthen the resolve to make Punjab a drug-free and fear-free state.
