Guwahati, 14 September (HS): Acting on specific source information, Assam Police intercepted a vehicle at the Digorkhal Check Point along the Assam-Meghalaya border and recovered 35.159 kg of suspected ganja, officials said.

The vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 QC 4152 was stopped and thoroughly searched by the security personnel. During the search, 379 packets of suspected ganja, weighing a total of 35.159 kg, were recovered and seized as per established procedure.

According to the officials, the suspected contraband was concealed inside courier parcel cartons. Upon opening the cartons, the ganja packets were found packed in polythene packets resembling tea packets, apparently to conceal their contents during transportation.

One person identified as Arup Kalita, a resident of Nalbari, was apprehended in connection with the seizure. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the suspected contraband and identify others who may be involved in the case.-----------
