New Delhi, 13 September (H.S.): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, will organise a six-day specialised capacity-building programme for senior officials of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from the Global South. The executive programme, being conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative, will be held in New Delhi from September 14 to 19. NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian will formally inaugurate the programme on Monday.

According to the NHRC, the primary objective of the six-day programme is to strengthen the institutional capabilities of human rights institutions in participating countries and facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences for the protection and promotion of human rights. The specialised course has been designed on the basis of feedback received from four ITEC capacity-building programmes previously organised by the Commission, as well as the requirements identified by participating institutions. A total of 41 senior officials from National Human Rights Institutions of 15 countries are taking part in the training programme.

During the training sessions, participants will engage in detailed discussions on key subjects including the evolution of the international human rights framework, contemporary human rights challenges, human rights and business, the impact of emerging technologies, and sustainable development. In addition, foreign delegates will be provided practical insights into the functioning of the NHRC from a global human rights perspective, including its complaints management system and investigation mechanisms.

Drawing on its rich institutional experience spanning more than three decades, the NHRC will promote collaborative efforts among countries of the Global South for advancing human rights, ensuring effective enforcement of laws and strengthening institutional mechanisms. Experts in relevant fields will serve as resource persons and provide guidance during the programme.

In addition to lectures, the programme has been designed to include practical interactive sessions, cultural exchanges and field visits for the participating officials.
