Forensic team collects samples; police say it is too early to confirm reports of a possible grenade attack
Fazilka, 13 September (H.S.): Panic spread in Jalalabad after a low-intensity explosion occurred inside the City Police Station premises shortly after midnight. The blast damaged the windows of two cars parked inside the police station. Both vehicles had been impounded in connection with separate criminal cases.
Soon after the incident, police cordoned off the police station and surrounding area and restricted entry. A forensic team from Bathinda reached the spot and collected samples from the site for examination.
Speculation also emerged over a possible grenade attack, but police officials said no such conclusion could be drawn at this stage. SP (D) Satinder Kumar said the exact nature and cause of the explosion would be known only after the forensic examination is completed.
He confirmed that a low-intensity explosion had taken place inside the police station premises and that the windows of two parked vehicles were damaged. Police are also investigating what material caused the blast and whether any individual or group was involved.
Asked about the presence of police personnel inside the station at the time of the explosion, the SP said most officers had been deployed at different locations in the town due to protests over power cuts.
Police have appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid paying attention to unverified information or rumours. The situation is under control, officials said, adding that further details will be shared once the forensic findings and investigation provide clarity.
