Kozhikode, 13 September (H.S.) :The CPM will introduce corrective measures to address organisational, political, ideological and policy-related weaknesses identified within the party and review their implementation every three months, State Secretary M V Govindan said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference in Kozhikode, Govindan said the party had discussed several reports and documents, but acknowledged that problems continued to persist despite earlier deliberations and decisions.

“Decisions alone will not produce results. The State Committee will examine whether the proposed corrective measures have been effectively implemented,” he said. Those required to rectify their shortcomings must do so, and their progress would be assessed at three-month intervals.

Govindan said the party’s objective was to equip its entire organisation with a renewed understanding of contemporary political, organisational, policy and ideological challenges. The quality and political awareness of party members would also be improved through stronger party education programmes.

He underlined the need for serious intervention from the grassroots to correct deficiencies in organisational functioning and address complaints and problems emerging at the local level. Party units must ensure that their activities remain consistent with the CPM’s declared political positions and objectives, he added.

Govindan said right-wing ideas, including communalism and political apathy, were gaining influence in Kerala by weakening the Left. The CPM’s immediate challenge was to find effective ways of strengthening Left politics and expanding its influence in the state.

The party was also discussing how its organisational work should be restructured to respond to emerging social conditions and changing public expectations, he said.

Govindan accused right-wing media organisations of conducting misleading campaigns against the CPM. He said the party’s communication and media systems would be strengthened to counter such campaigns and effectively present its political positions to the public.

The CPM leadership would closely monitor the implementation of its decisions and ensure that corrective action was not confined to reports and resolutions, he added.
