Jalandhar, 12 September (H.S.): Jalandhar Police arrested an alleged gangster associate after he was shot in the leg during an encounter on Saturday morning. The accused has been identified as Sukhjinder Singh alias Prince, a resident of Tarn Taran. Police said he is associated with the Donny Bal gang.

According to police, Prince was arrested on the basis of CCTV footage in connection with a criminal case. At around 8 am, a police team took him near the Dairy Complex in Jamsherpur for the recovery of a weapon.

Police said the accused suddenly tried to flee and allegedly opened fire at the police team. The policemen retaliated, resulting in an exchange of fire. Three rounds were fired during the encounter, police said.

The accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was taken to Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, for treatment.

A pistol and a bullet casing were recovered from the spot, police said. The weapon and other evidence are being examined as part of the investigation.

Police said the accused had earlier been brought in for identification in connection with a criminal case. During the investigation, it allegedly emerged that he was planning to carry out another criminal operation. Further investigation is underway.
