Pune, 12 Sept (HS): A senior Congress leader and former

Spokesperson of party Dr Ratnakar Mahajan passed away after a prolonged illness

on Saturday morning in Pune, He was 80.

Mahajan was formed chairman of the State Planning Board and held position of

President of Lokprabodhini. He was associated with movement led by Jayprakash

Narayan, and was influence by Dr Ram Manohar Lihia, S M Joshi, N G Gore, G P

Pradhan etc. He also followed principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Gopal Ganesh

Agarkar and worked for social upliftment of the downtrodden. He actively

participated in Yuvak Kranti Dal, Sewa Dal, Bharat Jodo Abhiyan and youth

movement etc.

Borth

on 14 June 1946 at Babulgaon in Indapur Tehsil, he completed preliminary

education in Indiapur and later in Pune> He completed higher education in

Medical Sciences and later worked in various fields. A studious and social

thinker he worked for generating awareness among the youth and other members of

the society. He was founder and President of Lokprabodhini social organisation.
