Guwahati, 12 September (HS): The Congress is yet to finalise its candidate for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, with senior and newly elected party leaders admitting that they have no clear information about the nominee so far. Senior Congress MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar expressed hope that the party would announce the candidate within the next one or two days.

Speaking on the issue, Sikdar said the candidate’s name could emerge either today or tomorrow. He indicated that the final decision was still pending at the party level and that an official announcement was expected shortly.

Interestingly, even newly elected Congress legislators appear to be unaware of the party’s choice for the crucial by-election. Newly elected MLA Zubeir Anam said he was hopeful that the candidate would be finalised today in the presence of newly appointed Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel.

The uncertainty over the nominee comes at a time when the Congress is preparing to mount its electoral campaign in Nagaon, where the selection of a suitable candidate is being closely watched by party workers and political observers.------------
