Amritsar, 11 September (H.S.):Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Pawan Kumar Sharma, who was critically injured after being hit by a scooter, died on Friday. He had been undergoing treatment for the past 12 days. Sharma had sustained a serious head injury in the accident and was kept on ventilator support as his condition remained critical.

Pawan Kumar Sharma was a resident of Amritsar and was posted with the traffic police at Lawrence Road. According to police, the accident took place at around 1:45 pm on August 30, when he was on duty with other police personnel near Celebration Road.

During duty, Sharma signalled a speeding scooter to stop. When the rider failed to stop, the ASI moved towards the middle of the road. At the same time, two youths riding another scooter approached from behind. They reportedly failed to notice the ASI in time and their scooter hit him.

The two scooter riders also fell on the road, while ASI Pawan Kumar sustained serious injuries. He was immediately admitted to a hospital, where he remained under treatment. Due to the severe head injury, his condition continued to remain critical. After battling for life for nearly 12 days, ASI Pawan Kumar Sharma succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Following the accident, Civil Lines Police Station SHO Mohit Kumar had said that police were trying to trace the scooter riders and raids were being conducted at their suspected locations. Initially, police had received information that the ASI had been hit by a car. However, further investigation revealed that he was actually struck by an Activa scooter.
