Guwahati, 11 September (HS): The 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organised a felicitation ceremony at its headquarters in Patgaon on Thursday to honour two distinguished personalities from Assam, Padmashri Dr. Jogesh Deuri and Padmashri Nuruddin Ahmed, for their outstanding contributions to society and bringing recognition to the state at the national level.

Commandant ABK. Singh welcomed the two awardees and felicitated them with traditional Assamese Gamosa and special mementoes. Their life journeys and contributions were highlighted through a documentary presentation during the programme.

Dr. Jogesh Deuri was honoured for his notable contributions to agriculture, including innovation, research and efforts aimed at making farmers self-reliant while strengthening the rural economy. Nuruddin Ahmed was recognised for his significant contribution to art and craft and his efforts to preserve and promote Assam’s rich artistic heritage and cultural identity.

Addressing NDRF officers and rescuers, both awardees shared their life experiences and stressed the importance of selfless service, patience and discipline in achieving success.

Commandant Singh said the ceremony was not merely about celebrating awards but about honouring dedication and the spirit of public service. He described the lives of the two Padmashri awardees as a source of inspiration for NDRF personnel.

Senior officers, subordinate officers and a large number of NDRF rescuers attended the ceremony. The programme concluded with a plantation drive by the two awardees on the NDRF campus, underlining the importance of environmental conservation and a greener, sustainable campus.------------
