

Foreign Ambassadors, film stars, crickets also watched procession
Nagpur, 11 Sept (HS): A huge crowd participated in the Marbat procession
on Friday. The unique festival is celebrated in Nagpur only since last 145
years. This year Nagpur Municipal Corporation wished to make it a special brand
of Nagpur and take the festival to international map. Besides Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs, Mayor Nita
Thakre Ambassadors of France, Italy, Finland and Norway, prominent personalities
from Bollywood Jacky Shroff, Subhash Ghai, Ankush Chaudhari, Jay Mehta, cricket
Umesh Yadav and other also witnessed the procession.
The festival marks raising issues confronting the society, condemning the
anti-socials and anti-nationals and celebrating victory over social evils.
Over 4.000 police personnel were deployed to maintain security during
the procession, which moved through main streets of East Nagpur and the
effigies were burnt to end the festival.
Local television channels telecast live the procession for the benefit
of those who could not participate.
Badgyas of Field Marshal Asim Munir was depicted as ‘Failed Marshal’
Asim Munir, Cockroach also marked the procession.
The celebration of the festival is also unique as
it is not restricted to any religion and Nagpurians of region, caste, believers
and non-believers can participate in it
