New Delhi, 11 September (H.S.): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit. This is his first visit to India since assuming office as President of Iran. Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening, with discussions expected to focus on expanding trade between the two countries and further strengthening bilateral relations.

The Iranian President was received at New Delhi airport by Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Pezeshkian in a post on the social media platform X, saying that India and Iran share civilisational ties, underpinned by vibrant cultural links and strong people-to-people relations.

Jaiswal said that, as BRICS partners, India and Iran are working together to contribute to shared progress and prosperity. He welcomed Pezeshkian’s arrival in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit.
