Guwahati, 11 September (HS): Guwahati Police on Friday issued a clarification regarding a social-media message calling upon members of the public to assemble in large numbers in the city at a venue and time that would allegedly be announced later.

The Guwahati Police Commissionerate said it has taken note of the message and clarified that, as of now, it has not received any application or intimation seeking permission for such a gathering.

Police stated that any public programme or gathering in Guwahati must comply with applicable legal provisions and obtain the necessary permission or submit the required intimation to the competent authorities.

The police appealed to members of the public not to act upon or circulate unverified announcements regarding any such programme. The clarification comes amid the circulation of the purported call for a large public gathering on social media.-------------
