Hooghly, 11 September (H.S.): A shocking incident has triggered panic in West Bengal's Dinhata after the blood-soaked bodies of an elderly couple were recovered from their home on Friday morning. The incident took place in the cold storage-adjacent area under Dinhata Village-1 Gram Panchayat.

The deceased have been identified as Sukumar Barman and his wife Champa Roy.

According to family members, the couple's middle daughter, Tumpa Roy, repeatedly tried calling her mother on Friday morning but received no response. Growing suspicious, she sent her son to check on his grandparents.

When the teenager reached the house, he reportedly found the main gate and the room door open. After entering the house, he found his grandfather and grandmother lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He immediately rushed back and informed his mother.

Tumpa then hurried to her parental home. Seeing her parents lying in blood, she raised an alarm, following which neighbours gathered at the spot and informed Dinhata police.

Police officers, including SDPO Prashanta Debnath and IC Budhaditya Roy, reached the scene and began an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.

Tumpa claimed that her father often returned home intoxicated, leading to frequent disputes between her parents. She also said that her brother was allegedly addicted to intoxicants, which was another cause of tension within the family.

However, she could not confirm whether any dispute had taken place between the couple on Thursday night. While she suspects that a family dispute may have led to the incident, she has not ruled out the possibility of another motive behind the suspected killings.

Meanwhile, the couple's son, Mahadev, has reportedly been missing since the incident. Police are trying to determine when he last came home and when he left. Investigators have not ruled him out as a possible suspect and have launched a search to trace him.

Police said that the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem report is received. The investigation is continuing from all possible angles.
