New Delhi, 11 September (H.S.):

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Debashish Sharma as its candidate for the 2026 Lok Sabha by-election to the Nagaon constituency in Assam. The development was reported on Friday.

Party office-bearer Tarun Chugh said on Friday that the Central Election Committee had selected Debashish Sharma as the party’s candidate from Nagaon. Sharma is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam cadre. He recently took voluntary retirement from government service and subsequently entered active politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Nominations for the Lok Sabha by-election can be filed until September 16. Polling will be held on October 6, while counting of votes will take place on October 9.
