Cachar (Assam), 11 September (HS): Cachar Police seized around 1,700 kg of suspected Burmese (Myanmar) areca nuts and arrested four people in a late-evening operation against illegal smuggling, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a search at a warehouse in the Algapur area under the jurisdiction of Banshkandi Outpost and recovered the suspected smuggled areca nuts.

Four people were arrested in connection with the seizure. Police have not yet disclosed their names and addresses.

An investigation has been launched to trace the source of the consignment and identify others allegedly involved in the illegal trade. Police are also likely to intensify operations against smuggling activities in the border areas in the coming days.------------
