
Golaghat (Assam), 10 September (HS): A woman doctor of Golaghat District Jail, Dr Kaveri Kurmi, has been arrested in connection with the escape of prisoners from Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Golaghat, police said.
According to the investigation, Kurmi allegedly played a role in facilitating the repeated transfer of Najeebur Rahman, the prime accused in a triple murder case, to the hospital by showing him as ill. Taking advantage of the hospital visit, Rahman allegedly escaped from custody.
Police had earlier arrested a police personnel and two home guards in connection with the security lapse and the prisoner escape. Rahman's brother Hizbur Rahman was also arrested.
Two other prisoners, Rupam Kalita and Ajay Gowala, had also escaped from the hospital ward along with Rahman. Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding prisoners.------------
