Guwahati, 10 September (HS): Tension was reported along the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary after three persons were detained for allegedly attempting to construct a school on land claimed to be within Assam territory in Noapara area of Boko on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 6–7 km from the Assam-Meghalaya border. The three detained persons were identified as Dibanstar Rynjah (25), Joseph Nongmin (26) and Synsharlang Nongspong (30).

Following the reported construction activity, Boko Police took the trio into custody and brought them to the police station for questioning. The Assam administration subsequently halted the construction work.

Boko-Chaygaon Co-District Commissioner Priyanshu Bhardwaj visited the site along with Boko Revenue Circle Officer Krishna Arjun Barman and other officials. A police team led by Boko-Chaygaon Co-District Superintendent of Police Jankishore Gogoi also reached the spot.

The development sparked concern among residents of Noapara, amid allegations that construction was being undertaken in an area claimed by Assam.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Police reportedly detained Nenggram Sangma, an employee of the Assam Power Department, in connection with the developments, further adding to the tension in the area.

The detained persons were later released by the respective police authorities in the evening.

The incident highlights the continuing sensitivity surrounding the Assam-Meghalaya boundary, where territorial disputes have periodically triggered tensions in areas along the inter-state border.----------
