New Delhi, 10 September (H.S.):

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also fondly recalled the contributions of Prince Rahim’s late father, Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam, to development initiatives. This was Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s first official visit to India.

Sharing photographs of the meeting on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said he was pleased to meet Prince Rahim Aga Khan V. He said they fondly remembered the late Aga Khan IV and his enduring contributions to development efforts. The Prime Minister said discussions focused on ways to further strengthen the partnership between India and the Aga Khan Development Network in areas including healthcare, agriculture, rural development, youth empowerment and women’s empowerment.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met Prince Rahim Aga Khan V. Sharing photographs of the meeting on X, Jaishankar said they discussed the Aga Khan Development Network’s impactful work in the fields of social development and heritage conservation. They also explored further opportunities for cooperation in these areas, both in India and abroad.

It is noteworthy that the Aga Khan Development Network has been working in India for several decades across areas including healthcare, education, rural development, agriculture, culture and other spheres of social development.
