paid tribute to Bharat Ratna and renowned freedom fighter Pandit Govind Ballabh

Pant on his 139th birth anniversary. A programme was organised at the party office in Chowk on

Thursday afternoon under the City Congress President Fuzail Hashmi on chair.

Congress workers recalled his significant contributions as the first Chief

Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the fourth Home Minister of the country. They

said that he played a vital role in establishing Hindi as the official language

of the country.

They recalled that Pant, who earned his law degree from

Allahabad University, fought the historic case of the revolutionaries involved

in the Kakori Conspiracy. A great Indian statesman who participated in Mahatma

Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement, was conferred the country’s highest civilian

honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1957. Congress workers said that his life,

philosophy and ideals would continue to inspire generations to dedicate

themselves to national service and public welfare. Earlier party workers paid

floral tributes to his portrait.
