Bhubaneswar, 10 September (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Chintamani Mallick, former Secretary of Juba Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) Ltd. under Belpada Block in Balangir district, for allegedly misappropriating society and government funds amounting to over Rs 14.22 lakh.
According to Odisha Vigilance, a detailed investigation into financial irregularities at the cooperative society found that Mallick had allegedly committed financial fraud involving government and society funds totalling Rs 14,22,046 during the financial years 2016-17, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The investigation reportedly uncovered several financial discrepancies, including failure to account for proceeds from seed sales and omission of seed-sale revenue from the society’s official books of accounts. The probe also found that closing balances were allegedly suppressed in the Day Book and that fake bank deposits were recorded to conceal shortages and excess withdrawals from savings bank accounts.
In connection with the alleged financial irregularities, Odisha Vigilance has registered Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 16/2026 against Mallick under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Following his arrest, the accused was forwarded to the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir, for further legal proceedings.
