Kolkata, 10 September (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday paid tribute to legendary revolutionary and freedom fighter Bagha Jatin on his death anniversary. In a social media post, he remembered the supreme sacrifice of Jatindranath Mukherjee, popularly known as Bagha Jatin.

“Humid tribute to armed revolutionary and freedom fighter Bagha Jatin, Jatindranath Mukherjee, on his death anniversary,” Adhikari said in his message.

Jatindranath Mukherjee was born on December 7, 1879, and was among the prominent revolutionaries of Bengal. He played a key role in the armed struggle against British rule. He came to be popularly known as Bagha Jatin after an incident in which he fought and killed a tiger.

On September 9, 1915, he was seriously injured in an encounter with British police in Balasore, Odisha. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, September 10, 1915.

On his death anniversary, Bagha Jatin is remembered across the country as one of the courageous revolutionaries of India's freedom struggle.
