New Delhi, 10 September (H.S.):

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit New Delhi on September 12-13 to attend the 18th BRICS Summit being held under India’s chairship. During his visit, he will participate in the BRICS Summit and is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy said in a social media post here on Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 18th BRICS Summit to be held in New Delhi on September 12-13 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to sources, the Chinese President’s aircraft is expected to arrive at Palam Technical Airport here in the early hours of Saturday. He will be accompanied by a large business delegation. Prime Minister Modi is also likely to hold a bilateral meeting with the Chinese President on Saturday. Several important agreements are expected to be concluded during the meeting. Russian President Vladimir Putin is arriving in New Delhi late Thursday night and will hold his annual summit meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Friday.

China is a key member of BRICS. Against the backdrop of global geopolitical shifts, India and China are focusing on multilateral economic cooperation. The BRICS Summit provides a platform for emerging powers to advance initiatives on trade, development finance, and alternatives to international institutions led by Western countries.

India is chairing BRICS this year. In this capacity, India will host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12-13. The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, along with invited guests.

India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously chaired the grouping three times, in 2012, 2016, and 2021. India assumed the BRICS chairship for the fourth time on January 1, 2026. The year 2026 also marks a significant milestone, as BRICS completes 20 years since its establishment.
