Kolkata, 10 September (H.S.) : BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee on Wednesday night said Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s proposed procession passing near Jadavpur University was significant, claiming that the BJP had secured victory in Jadavpur this time. She said Jadavpur had supported nationalism and claimed that the BJP won the election by 1,06,992 votes.

Mukherjee questioned the situation at Jadavpur University, saying various Left-wing student organisations were still active on the campus. Linking these groups to the term “brainwashed Naxals” used by the Prime Minister, she alleged that students were recruited in universities in a particular manner.

The BJP MLA alleged that certain students were specifically targeted by such organisations and pressured to carry their flags, repeat their ideology and raise anti-national slogans. She said the process of influencing students ideologically in this manner could be described as “brainwashed Naxalism”.

She said young students stayed on campus from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. while living away from their families and questioned what a college student does on campus for such long hours. She alleged that those raising questions on such issues were labelled as wrong or communal.

Mukherjee also questioned the alleged writing of anti-national slogans on university walls and said such activities needed to be discussed and questioned. She claimed that such a situation had persisted at Jadavpur University for nearly 50 years.
