New Delhi, 01 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the concluding session of the Departmental Summit of the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday and will also address the gathering, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the PMO, the two-day Departmental Summit of the Ministry of Jal Shakti is being held on September 1 and 2. It is the first in a series of departmental summits being organised under the Prime Minister’s vision. The summit aims to strengthen the spirit of ‘Team India’, deepen cooperative federalism and promote a sense of collective responsibility towards national priorities through enhanced coordination between the Centre and the states.

Political leadership and senior officials from the Central and state governments are participating in the summit. The deliberations are focusing on key priorities in the water sector, sharing best practices adopted by different states, identifying solutions to implementation-related challenges and preparing time-bound action plans.

The summit will deliberate on four key areas: timely implementation of water infrastructure projects; ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari – Catch the Rain’; ensuring the sustainability of sources for drinking-water systems; and the operation and maintenance of rural drinking-water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.

The discussions are aimed at identifying concrete and time-bound measures to accelerate the implementation of water infrastructure projects, enhance public participation in water conservation, ensure the long-term sustainability of drinking-water sources, and improve the reliability and accountability of drinking-water services in rural areas.
