New Delhi, 09 August (H.S.): Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the government cannot evade accountability over concerns raised by students, citing his interaction with a student in Prayagraj who, according to him, expressed deep frustration over his employment prospects despite years of preparation and significant financial hardship.

In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi said the student told him that he had spent years preparing for competitive examinations, while his family had been forced to sell land and his parents had accumulated debt. Despite these sacrifices, the student had little to show for his efforts, Gandhi said.

Gandhi argued that the situation represented not the failure of the student but of a system that, in his view, had failed to adequately reward the hard work and aspirations of young people.

He also alleged that the Central Government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had remained silent on the concerns raised by students. Gandhi said 13 days had passed since the reported action against students, but no statement had been issued by the Home Minister on the matter.

Gandhi further alleged that, instead of addressing the students’ concerns, the government was offering clemency. He reiterated that the Opposition would continue to seek accountability and said the government should respond to the allegations concerning the use of force against students in the national capital.

Referring to the reported use of lathis and pellets during the incident, Gandhi questioned the lack of a response from the Home Minister and asserted that the government would ultimately have to answer for the circumstances surrounding the episode.
