Asan (SouthKorea), 07 August (H.S.): India’s 17-year-old badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma’s impressive run at the Korea Masters 2026 came to an end in the quarterfinals after she suffered a defeat against compatriot Rakshita Ramraj in an all-Indian clash. Rakshita defeated Tanvi 18-21, 21-19, 21-19 to advance to the semifinals.

Tanvi, who created history last week by becoming the youngest champion after winning the Taipei Open Super 300 title, made a strong start by claiming the opening game. However, Rakshita staged a remarkable comeback, winning the second and third games to seal victory. With this win, Rakshita extended her head-to-head record against Tanvi to 4-0.

Despite the defeat, Tanvi once again impressed with her outstanding performance. She defeated several higher-ranked players during the tournament to reach the quarterfinals, further boosting her confidence ahead of the BWF World Championships scheduled to be held later this month.

Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals, Tanvi defeated fellow Indian shuttler Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in another all-Indian encounter.

Rakshita will now face India’s Ashmita Chaliha in the semifinals. Ashmita secured her place in the last four by defeating top seed Hina Akechi 20-22, 21-15, 21-19.

In men’s doubles, India’s Prithvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Krishna Prasad Garaga advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating South Korea’s Kim Young-hyuk and Shin Tae-yang 21-18, 21-19.

Meanwhile, in women’s doubles, India’s Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker were eliminated after losing to Japan’s seventh-seeded pair Sumire Nakaede and Miyu Takahashi 21-15, 21-9.

In mixed doubles, sixth-seeded Indian duo Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra suffered a defeat against South Korea’s Shin Tae-yang and Kim Yu-jung, going down 21-16, 16-21, 21-13.
