New Delhi, 07 August (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Delhi Police while hearing a plea seeking registration of an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over alleged inflammatory remarks against Muslims and former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal directed the Delhi Police to submit its report and scheduled the next hearing in the matter for August 31.

In his petition, Harsh Mander referred to an alleged inflammatory speech made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The petition also mentioned remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey regarding former Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi’s statement on the Waqf law.

The petition alleged that Nishikant Dubey’s reference to S.Y. Quraishi as a “Muslim Commissioner” was inflammatory and had the potential to promote communal sentiments. It further claimed that the remarks amounted to spreading communal discord.

Regarding Himanta Biswa Sarma, the petition stated that his speech falls under the category of inflammatory statements and sought legal action against him.
