New Delhi, 07 August (H.S.): The Shahdara Bar Association (SBA) of Karkardooma Court has withdrawn its call to boycott the courts of two judges after receiving positive assurances during a meeting with the Portfolio Committee Chairman of Karkardooma Court, Justice Subramonium Prasad, and the District and Sessions Judge of Karkardooma Court.

Following the meeting held on Friday with Justice Subramonium Prasad and the District and Sessions Judge, the judges assured SBA representatives that the matter would be personally looked into. Some judges of the Delhi High Court are also scheduled to visit Karkardooma Court on August 8 and interact with the concerned judicial officers. In view of these assurances, the SBA decided to withdraw its boycott call against the two courts.

A notice issued on August 6 under the signature of SBA Secretary Narveer Dabas had called upon lawyers to boycott the courts of Family Court Judge S.S. Rathi and Mahila Court Judge Ritika Kansal, alleging inappropriate behaviour towards advocates.

The SBA notice stated that complaints had been made regarding the alleged disrespectful conduct of both judicial officers towards lawyers. However, despite the complaints, there had been no improvement in their behaviour, the association claimed.

The notice further alleged that Family Court Judge S.S. Rathi had referred to a senior advocate as a “middleman” in the courtroom. The SBA had stated that any act undermining the dignity and respect of lawyers would not be tolerated.
