Hooghly, 07 August (H.S.) : In a bid to strengthen trust between the police and the public and enhance community participation in maintaining law and order, Serampore Police have launched an extensive Community Policing and Police-Public Outreach Campaign ahead of Independence Day.
As part of the initiative, police officers are visiting neighbourhoods across the Serampore Police Station area, holding small interactive meetings with residents and establishing direct communication with local communities. The primary objective of the campaign is to reach every household before August 15 and encourage citizens to become active partners in ensuring public safety.
In the initial phase, special meetings are being organised for women in different localities. During these interactions, police officials are creating awareness about issues such as domestic violence, harassment, cybercrime, drug trafficking, gambling and other anti-social activities. Women are being encouraged to report any suspicious incidents or criminal activities without fear.
Police officials have assured residents that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and that every complaint or piece of information will be acted upon promptly and impartially.
One of the key features of the campaign is that police officers are sharing their personal contact numbers with local residents, enabling them to establish direct communication with the police whenever assistance is required. The initiative is expected to improve accessibility, encourage timely reporting of crimes and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
According to sources at Serampore Police Station, the campaign is aimed not only at responding to crimes after they occur but also at preventing offences through active public participation. Police believe that stronger cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies will significantly contribute to crime prevention and the creation of a safer environment.
Residents have also been urged not to spread rumours or unverified information on social media and to immediately report any suspicious movements, anti-social activities, crimes against women, theft, robbery or drug-related offences to the police.
Launched in the run-up to Independence Day, the campaign reflects Serampore Police's commitment to building a people-centric policing system based on trust, accessibility and cooperation. With a target of reaching every household before August 15, the initiative seeks to foster stronger police-public relations while reinforcing the sense of security across the entire police station jurisdiction.
