Kolkata, 06 August (H.S.): The West Bengal Legislative Assembly has constituted its Standing Committees for the 2026–27 term, assigning key financial, legislative, administrative and House-related responsibilities to legislators across various committees. The appointments were notified by the Assembly Secretariat on Thursday.

According to the notification, Kanhaiyalal Agarwal has been appointed Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). ISF MLA Nausad Siddique from Bhangar will head the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table, with Champdani MLA Dilip Singh serving as one of its members. Dr Rajesh Kumar has been named Chairman of the Committee of Privileges.

The Committee on Subordinate Legislation will be chaired by Rathin Ghosh, while Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose will head the Committee on Members' Rights and Amenities. The committee includes Deputy Speaker, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Shankar Ghosh, Chief Government Whip Amlan Bhaduri, and several legislators from both the Treasury and Opposition benches.

Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee has been appointed Chairman of the Library Committee, while Sital Kapat will head the MLA Local Area Development Scheme Committee. Samir Kumar Panja has been named Chairman of the Committee on Reforms in the Committee System and Procedures.

The House Committee will be chaired by Bhudaray Tudu, while Speaker Rathindra Bose will continue to head the Rules Committee. Ritesh Tiwari has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances, and Chandranath Sinha will head the Petitions Committee.

The notification further states that Amarnath Shakha has been appointed Chairman of the Local Fund Accounts Committee, while Lakshman Chandra Ghorui will head the Estimates Committee. Legislators from both the ruling party and the Opposition have been included in the various committees to ensure balanced representation.

The Standing Committees will examine government schemes, scrutinise public expenditure, review legislative matters, oversee administrative functioning, and submit reports and recommendations to the Assembly. Their tenure will remain effective for the 2026–27 session.
