New Delhi, 06 August (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board member, Rajya Sabha MP, BJP OBC Morcha national president, and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha House Committee Dr K. Laxman on Thursday raised the demand for according national recognition to Sant Sevalal Maharaj during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha.
Dr Laxman said that Sant Sevalal Maharaj, a revered spiritual leader of the Banjara community and a great social reformer, dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of the poor, tribal communities, and underprivileged sections of society.
He said Sant Sevalal Maharaj promoted values such as truth, equality, social harmony, self-reliance, and respect for nature. His teachings and ideals continue to inspire millions of people across several states, including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
Dr Laxman urged the Central Government to take several steps in honour of Sant Sevalal Maharaj, including declaring his birth anniversary as a national holiday, organising nationwide memorial and awareness programmes to spread his teachings, and encouraging research, publications, and educational activities focusing on his life, philosophy, and social contributions.
He also demanded the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Sant Sevalal Maharaj.
Dr Laxman said granting national recognition to Sant Sevalal Maharaj would be a true tribute to his ideals of social justice, national unity, service, and harmony. He urged the Central Government to consider the long-pending demand sympathetically and take necessary steps at the earliest.
